What type of appointment is right for me?We'd love to welcome you to Emma Roy and picking the right appointment for you very much depends on where you are in your wedding dress journey. If you’re just starting out and want guidance on styles, fabrics, and what suits you best, book a ‘Bridal Consultation’ (45 mins, £15). This relaxed session lets you explore up to three gowns with an expert stylist and bring a few guests along for support. If you’ve already narrowed down your vision and are ready to say yes to your perfect dress, go for a ‘Bridal Appointment’ (1.5 hours, £30). This appointment is designed for brides who want a personalized, in-depth experience to find “the one” with their closest guests and includes a glass of fizz! If you’ve tried on your favorite gown before and want to revisit it to confirm your decision, choose ‘The Yes Moment’ (60 mins, £15). It’s the perfect chance to try on your top picks again, finalize your choice, and celebrate with a glass of fizz. We also offer Accessories appointments to complete your bridal look and Try-on appointments once your gown arrives. Please call us directly to book these.

How much are the dresses? Our current collection gowns start at around £1200 and go up to approximately £3,500. We also offer discontinued sample and sale gowns starting from around £300 so there are some fantastic options available for every bride and every budget.
-
What sizes are your samples? Our brides come in lots of different shapes and sizes so our samples reflect this. Bridal sizing usually runs a little smaller than high street sizes and our samples range from UK8-26 and can usually be ordered in UK0-30/32. We have an ever growing range of samples and are committed to expanding these collections even more. While its frustrating that not every sample is available in every size to try on, our stylists have lots of tips and tricks to show you how it might look in your own size. Check out our Instagram to see our beautiful brides of all sizes in their ER gown.

-
Can I bring friends and family to the styling appointment and will we be offered refreshments? We would love to welcome you with up to 3 of your most important people to share in the fun and you’ll all be offered complimentary refreshments including tea, coffee, juice and...PROSECCO! We understand that some of our brides may want more people with them to share in the fun of the event so we also offer a VIP appointment for a small fee on a Thursday evening where you’ll have exclusive use of the shop and be able to bring up to 6 guests.
-
Can I use skype/facetime to show other family members during my appointment?Of course! You are very welcome to use technology to bring in as many people as you like into the appointment digitally...just be careful though, too many opinions can be difficult to navigate.
-
What underwear should I wear for the appointment and should I bring shoes? The most important answer here is ‘whatever makes you feel comfortable’ – whether that’s a thong or Spanx from ankle to armpit, you wont find any judgement from us! We suggest a nude or light coloured underwear and a good fitting strapless bra can be great if you’re considering that style of dress. In many cases you wont need to wear a bra at all due to the construction of the gown and we’ll be on hand to give underwear advice for your big day. You don’t need to bring shoes with you for your appointment as we have 4 inch pedestals for you to stand on to give the impression of heels without having to take them on and off for each dress. While we don’t sell shoes, we do have a small collection of Jimmy Choo heels in limited sizes that you’re very welcome to try on with your gown.
-
How long is the appointment? Our appointments last roughly an hour fifteen minutes.
-
Do you sell bridal accessories? What about bridesmaid gowns and Mother of the bride outfits? We have veils, belts, tiaras, combs and hair vines in store so that you can accessorise your gown to perfection. While we don’t stock jewellery, shoes, bridesmaids or mother of the bride dresses we’d be happy to point you in the right direction.
-
Whats your payment procedure? You’ve found your gown at Emma Roy, congratulations! We require a 50% deposit before we can order your gown with the remaining 50% due when your gown arrives in store. We accept card (not American express though – sorry), cash or BACS payments.
-
When are my measurements taken? When you’ve found the one and decided that you want to place your order we’ll take your measurements as quickly and painlessly as possible. We know that this part can be triggering or stressful for some people so if you’d rather not know your measurements just let us know and we’ll gladly keep them to ourselves. Each designer has their own size chart so we’ll go over the corresponding size chart together so that we can agree on the best size for you. We then offer an optional in house alterations service to make the dress fit perfectly.
-
How late can I order and when will my dress arrive? In an ideal world we like to have your order placed no later than 8 months before your wedding. This gives 6 months for delivery and then allows us 8 weeks for alterations. We recognise that not every bride has the luxury of time so we can sell off the peg or make enquiries with our designers about rush delivery or available-for-immediate-delivery stock. Lots of our brides like to start the shopping process around a year or so before the big day and if you’re ahead of the game in placing your order we’ll have your gown delivered 6 months before your wedding meaning that we can store it free of charge for this time. If you’d like us to store your gown for longer than this time we charge £10 per month.
-
Can I have my alterations done at Emma Roy and is the cost included? We have a small team of skilled bridal seamstresses in store so you can have your gown fitted just for you. Alterations are usually carried out over 4 appointments in the 6 – 8 weeks before your wedding and these appointments are Tuesday – Friday only and subject to availability. Alterations are not included in the price of the gown and average at £420 but this could more or less depending on what alterations are required. We can also sew in bra cups or make design changes (design changes subject to consultation) to your gown for an additional cost and you’ll need your shoes and underwear for all of your fittings. Our seamstresses are very much in demand so if you do want to use this service please book in as soon as possible before your wedding to have the best chance of securing the dates for fittings. N.B. We don't contact brides to arrange alteration appointments.
-
I don’t live in Edinburgh, can I still have my alterations done with you?We can offer a condensed fitting service over two ‘all day’ appointments a bit closer to the wedding meaning in most cases you’d only have to travel to us twice instead of the usual 4. This service is very limited and subject to availability. We can also recommend another seamstress in Edinburgh who can offer more flexibility.
-
When can I collect my dress? Most brides like to collect their gown a week or two prior to the wedding (don’t worry, we’ll give you advice on how to store it!) but if you need it sooner we can schedule this to work with your timeframe.
